PORCELAIN VENEER PLACEMENT PROCEDURE

Normally, placing porcelain veneers takes one appointment if the veneer is prefabricated, and two if it still has to be crafted in a laboratory, where the veneer will be created based on an impression of your tooth.

Before placing the veneer, the dentist will clean the tooth and remove a tiny amount of the tooth’s enamel to make sure the veneer fits perfectly. The correct shade for the veneer will also be determined at this stage of the process. Unless you’re particularly sensitive, the preparation phase doesn’t usually require local anesthesia.

Once your porcelain veneer arrives from the laboratory, the dentist will clean your tooth with pumice and water. The veneer itself will go through an etching, water rinsing, and air-drying process. A special cement is applied to the veneer before it’s placed on your tooth. The veneer will then be light-cured for 60 seconds to activate the chemicals in the cement and make it harden more quickly. Any excess material will be removed, and the margins of the veneer will be polished.
